Rules & Regulation Agreement
Eligibility: Competitors must be between the ages of 7-21, as of January 1, 2011. The ADC welcomes all nationalities, for we are an equal opportunity organization. This is strictly a student competition. Dancers with a signed contract of any sort with a professional company is not allowed to enter the competition. This also includes any dancer who has been employed professionally in the past, even if currently not holding the position. However, pre-professionals, with an un-paid position, are eligible. Teachers are not permitted to compete even if within the age confines.
The performing Arts Sector of the competition is NOT bound by the same Preliminary Round rules of the Ballet Competition. The Contemporary Workshop & Preliminary Round may be taken by the performing arts participants, but is NOT mandatory.
Competitors may perform more than one solo. However, the entry with the highest score will be the one in consideration for High Score. Thus, one competitor will not be awarded two places in the Top Scores of the Age-Division.
Performers may not compete against themselves in a Duo/Trio, at least 50% must be different people. It is permissible to compete against yourself in Ensembles.
The ADC is scheduled on a first come, first served basis. So, to secure your spot, register well before the deadline.
If not enough entries in division, will compete in the Contemporary Dance Division of the Ballet Competition.
Description of Categories:
Jazz- A performance that utilizes jazz technique such as splits, isolations, leaps, etc.
Lyrical- A performance choreographed to interpret the lyrics or mood of the music.
Open- A performance which is a combination of any of the previous categories, and which doesn’t exactly fit any of the other descriptions. This is strictly a dance competition, so dancing is essential in the routine.
**NOTE: If a routine consists of ANY gymnastic tricks, the performance must be placed in the Open Category. Be sure to place the entry in the correct category, for deductions will occur.
Age Determination:
The average age will determine the age division for duo/trio & Groups. Do not use decimals; round down. Ex: average age 14.9 = 14. So, this entry will be in the JUNIOR age division.
Names, Ages, and Birth dates of all competitors must appear on the official performers list form or it will not be accepted.
Additional Rules:
The name of a routine may not be the same name as the dance studio.
General props are permitted in any of the performance categories, however no dangerous props: Ex, fire, knives, swords or pyrotechnics. The stage must be cleaned in a timely manner after a routine that has left articles on stage such as confetti, feathers, etc. All props must be in place and also removed within 1.5 minutes.
The ADC values age-appropriate dances. If the judges consider either the costuming or the choreography to be inappropriate, immediate disqualification or point reductions may occur.
If a group loses a member right before the competition and drops below the original number registered, they may still compete in the Larger Division. Ex: A group of 10, registered as Large Group, loses 1 member, giving them 9, and putting them in the Small Group division, they may still compete as a Large Group. If this circumstance occurs, immediately contact The ADC office, so no points will be deducted from the groups score on the day of competition.
